Well, flea market season is finally here, and it started out at a balmy 28° F with heavy frost.

And it was worth it!

Stanley No.10 Rabbet plane type 11 $3.00
Perfect handle screwdriver, and
Yankee #45 push drill w/7 bits(3 never used) $2.00

Can anyone ID the screwdriver? I posted a pict of the logo, and there is a circled 6 stamped into the blade.

Turn out was very small as usual for a saturday, going back tomorrow, 40% chance of rain but a bit warmer.

I can't see much in the rust but the screwdriver is probably made by H.D. Smith of Plantsville CT.

As far as I know there were many companies who adopted the perfect handle design when the patent expired. I own quite a few of them with no makers mark to be seen.

Nice score on the #10.
Flea Market today for me yielded:
Record 044c NIB $25
Stanley 78 $12
Stanley #3 $5
Stanley Excelsior Bailey's Patent $1

not as good as the #10, thats one that you'll remember!

I got a box of block planes for $20. It had Three Stanley 220's, a Stanley 110, a Millers Falls 614 with adjustable mouth, and a Craftsman adjustible mouth plane. They all cleaned up nice. The soles are now flattened. The was some pitting on the blades but they still make nice thin curls of wood.

I know where you can make a quick 50 bucks on that number 10, no questions asked! ;)

Oh man nice score...my flea market trip was a bust for planes. Picked up a hand drill in good condition and a fret saw and that was all. I'm gonna hit it again tomorrow.

A number ten for three dollars? You really really SUCK! Where do you find people who have no conception of what they're selling? Clean it up and enjoy it.

Where do you find people who have no conception of what they're selling?

Not only the seller, but what about all the people that passed it up?

Unless you got out there with a flashlight perusing the scene before everyone else woke up.

Update:
Well the temperature was a much nicer 47 today, but no woodworking finds whatsoever.

I did find a couple small things for work including a clean General 251 screw pitch gage for $1, so I guess it was worth the effort.

I missed a nice Sargent jointer, the guy who bought it recognized me as the guy who buys planes, and showed it to me. Exactly what I've been looking for! Arrgh, rub it in my face why don't you. And how did I get that reputation? I think I've only bought 3 planes there. I think I'm going to start going there earlier, sigh, that means waking up at 4:40. Be there by 6:20.

Jeff
Thanks for the links, esp the factory pics. I'll see what the logo says after
electrolysis.

For everyone wondering. I was out there an hour and 15 after they opened. The person I bought the #10 from had it in a 5gal bucket, along with a mediocre breast drill missing its handle, it was hiding behind her picnic table, the only 2 tools at her stand of house hold misc.

I hit the fleas late yesterday, around 9:30. All I found were a couple of rusty old saws at a buck each. I cleaned them up and found I had a so-so '50s Disston 14" backsaw and a gorgeous, straight, semisharp, rosewood-handled D15.
