Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are having a new house built. Through a miscommunication, we ended up with windows that are vinyl outside, and pine on the inside. The jambs are also pine. Our trim is wormy red oak, so the windows will end up being cased out in red oak. We've had the red oak for about five years, so switching wood isn't an option.

We took pieces of pine and the red oak to Sherwin Williams to color match, and the best they could do isn't very close. We're really in desperate need of a way to color match the bare pine to the red oak. We're shooting for a "natural" color to match the natural finished oak floors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Try using a water soluble dye (best colorfast dyes) .golden oak is a good color to start with you can adjust it easily. Stains and pine will never look right or be even without alot of work and a bit of luck..

Paint the pine now...........or spend hours and hours trying to come up with a stain that matches the oak before you finally decide to paint the pine.

American Woodworker April/May 2010 had a good article on "Decoding Any Finish" that could help.
