Welcome to the club. It is a remarkable machine. Ilove mine and roughed out a bowl of Live Oak today that weighed at least 99# when mounted, and 38# roughed out to 18" OD x 5 1/2" inside depth and about 2" wall. Started out at 200 rpm and worked up to 350 rpm. Makes me ready to go back to some smaller work, but the big sections were too great a temptation to pass up.

Mike, you are one lucky fellow!! I have never turned on one, but from everything I have heard, this is "the" lathe to own - you deserve it!!

It is a great lathe. When I bought mine I also bought a mobile base that was being manufactured by a guy in Texas. It adds another 100lbs of steel to the weight of the machine. Most notable is that I can push the lathe around the shop or onto the driveway effortlessly.

I just added the 18" bed extension so that I can move the tailstock completely out of the way.

Mike,do try to get over the guilt.
When I bought a new lathe my son asked,"how can you justify spending that much on yourself".
I said"you would'nt believe the ankst that went into that decision"....besides it's my birthday...keep your mouth shut around your mom!

Thanks SMC. I am very happy with my purchase and can't wait to put it through the ringer.

How can you wait for the weekend!!!!! I couldn't. Had it set up within two hours after getting it home.

I have to move the 1442 and run 220 to the lathe. With my work schedule and family life I have no choice but to wait till Saturday.

Congrats Mike. I guess you can't sneak that one past the wife. ;) :DBrian the wife gave her blessing with no argument. She says I deserve it. Isn't she great?
