I have disassembled an oak chair and need to re-glue the spindles. I've cleaned all the old glue off. Some are a snug fit while others are loose.

What is the best way to do this? I've seen the swelling liquids but I have my doubts that those would work here. Should I wrap something around the loose spindles for a tighter fit? Any suggestions? Is there a hardware store quick fix?

Thanks.

Epoxy would be my choice.

Handplane a strip of the same wood the spindles are made of and wrap it around tenon portion, then glue as needed. Good luck/Ed

I do what Ed suggests and it works well. Use a drill bit to ream out the sockets to get rid of old glue. Once you wrap the shaving and glue around the spindle, wrap a rubber band around the shaving several times to act as a clamp. If it ends up too large you can sand or file it down to fit. You want a very snug fit,
