Since I got my delta midi a couple years ago I have been doing mostly small spindle turnings like pens etc. No one living near by with a lathe that I know of and Bob Hamilton was kind enough to make the hours drive and give me a few pointers. He left behind this roughed out box elder bowl. I finally got the nerve to finish it. Since my finish of choice up to now was CA on my pens this one is just finished with paste wax. I can see I will be doing more (After I get the kitchen finished)

Very nice!! Great form, and looks like the finish is smooth, as well.

Good looking bowl Rick! Really like the form!

You don't list where you are at in Southern Ontario - so no way to know who lives close by. I know Leo lives in London and it would be well worth your time if you could drive over and spend some time with an expert!

Send him a PM if you are close by. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/member.php?u=38515

Sweet first bowl. I love the little color at the rim. Great form. You obviously learned a thing or two about curves while you were stuck between centers. Have fun.

I had forgotten about leaving the bowl roughout, Rick. You sure did a good job finish turning it! That looks great!

Take care
Bob

P.S.: The DVD's arrived safe! :)

Excellent first bowl. It is usually a good idea to keep your first one so you can gage your progress, but it's going to be hard to get much better than this one, with it's simple classic form.

thanks guys, Biggest problem was tool sharpening and figuring out how to hold the bowl while I finished the bottom. I'm afraid the lathe won't see a lot of use in the next while though. Got 10 sheets of Baltic birch plywood being delivered this morning and the kitchen reno starts this afternoon.

What a fine job you did bringing Bob's rough out to final form. Great form and a good finish...Bill...

Looks good. Rough out a few more then having something to finish when your plywood is used up!
