hi everyone, i need your help please!
i have a Jet combo sander JSG-96OS (open stand) and i want a mobile base for it.
i prefer a ShopFox because i like the square tubing but i try to google mobile bases
and just get a big bunch of odds & ends and nothing specific. does Shop Fox even have a website?

maybe you can help me find a base? Shop Fox or something else!
the bottom of the stand is 17-½" x 21-½"

thanks

Grizzly owns shop fox so you can find the bases on their site.

I have one of the Shop Fox bases under my bandsaw and IMHO it is OK but not great. Its a pain to lock because you have to bend over and tighten down the locking feet. Then its only somewhat locked. As a result, I never do. The Rockler base kit where you add your own wood crosspieces is better. About the same is the Woodcraft base that just uses a piece of 3/4" ply. I'm not particularly crazy about the kickstand wheels on these because they jar the tool pretty good. I'm converting all mine to use a machine mover instead.

This might be what he is referring to:

You have one end of a machine on casters and the other with a fixed base, and use this device to life the fixed side up to move it around.

Rockler also sells the HTC. The htc2000 is very sturdy and all metal. Its not square stock but believe me, there is no flimsy sheet metal. For the price, its way better than the Rockler brand were you have to add your own stock.

Lee, yes, that's what I was refering to.

Another advantage for HTC's Custom series of mobile bases--Made in the USA. I see they've redesigned their locks to be foot operated too.

HTC's universal mobile base is "Handyman Club of America Tested and Approved" I'd be wary of that one. :D

Ah yes--a Johnson bar. I've got to get myself one of those.

Here is the Shop Fox website. They are under the same ownership as Grizzly but operate seperately. Same basic machines with a different coat of paint and in some cases a little longer warranty. http://woodstockinternational.com/

Mine is a little lighter duty but photos can be seen here (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showpost.php?p=1365773&postcount=25). And here (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showpost.php?p=1366023&postcount=58) is another mobile base I modified to use it.

I like the bases from this company. Find the size you need, call 'em up, and they are very friendly and helpful.

Kevin,

This is off topic but how do you like that sander? I am planning on getting a sander, I just haven't made up my mind yet.

Just put the HTC 2000 base under a used Rigid jointer and I'm happy thus far. It seems sturdy, moves easily, and the locks operate easily with your foot.

matt, i like those kinds of bases, they seem very heavy duty.

doug, i havent used the sander yet, im waiting to get a base so i dont have
all the weight on the stand so it goes on easy. once i get a base and put the
stand on it, then i can mount the sander. but i know i will love it, its almost
exactly what i have been wanting! i used to have a generic combo sander
but wanted a better one with good solid steel tables.

This is my next base. I'm coordinating a mobile base build day for about 10 guys from my club on a Saturday in May to build custom bases. 4 full-lock swivel casters which makes moving the machine wherever you want a snap. Mine is replacing the Shop Fox on my band saw.

I don't know why there aren't any commercially available 4-swivel designs. A friend of mine built one for his DJ20 and to works great. He can easily pull it straight out from the wall when he needs more room. And with 4 swivels you can turn a machine in a space the diameter of its longest dimension, where you need significantly more with 2 fixed casters.

i could buy some casters that bolt through the hold in the bottom of the leg but i want a little more support so i might just build a wood base of my own and save a lot of money and it will be a custom fit.
