Grinder question

Hi all,

I use a Baldor 7 inch grinder to sharpen my gouges. Do any of you remove the covers and go up in size? Would I be the only one? Would I be taking a big risk?

I'd love to be able to use 8 inch grinding wheels.

Probably not a good idea. The only thing wrong with a 7 inch grinder would be finding 7 inch wheels.

Harvey I wouldn't go for a bigger wheel, not only for the safety, (yes keep the covers on) but also for the grinder, a bigger wheel is not only harder to start up for the motor but also harder to maintain the RPMs, as the leverage is increased, I happen to have a Stanley toolroom grinder that's a 7 inch one.
6', 7", 8", 10" and bigger sizes are standard grinder wheel sizes, and you shouldn't have any problem getting a wheel for that grinder at a grinding supply store.
