Well I took delivery of my new 1642-EVS-2 on Wednesday. Bought it from Toolnut and am very happy with their service. I bought it during their sale and they delayed shipping until I got home from Florida. We got home a couple of days early so I called and they moved the shipping up. Three days later it was in my garage. Great people.

My real question is where do you get a smaller face plate for this machine. Penn-State and Woodcrafters list a bunch of face plates but not for the 1 1/4" thread sizes. I also want a smaller tool rest. You would think a machine that cost this much would come with a couple of different sizes.

Very happy with the lathe so far but have not really turned anything yet. I see from reading the old posts most everyone ditches the upper guard and I can see why.

Thanks for any recommendations in advance.

George - Congrats on your new lathe! You are going to love it!

For face plates - check out Don Pencil - he is a sponsor here on the Creek and has some great products: http://www.donpencil.com/

As far as tool rests - there are a lot of different styles out there and it really is a matter of personal taste and what you want to turn. I use Randy's Monster rests and they work great for what I turn - mostly hollow forms and bowls. Here is Randy's site: http://monster-lathe-tools.com/cart.php?target=category&category_id=66 (http://monster-lathe-tools.com/cart.php?target=category&category_id=66)

Have fun with your new lathe! Looking forward to seeing some of your work!

Congrats on your lathe. Don Pencil has some nice faceplates and I like the robust tool rests. Really pretty slick. I have several tools and rests from Randy at monster tools.
