adhesive for leather and MDF

I am in the process of making a honing wheel. What adhesive would you
recommend to glue a leather strip around the perimeter of a MDF disc?

A good place to check is http://www.thistothat.com/

They recommend something called "Barges Glue" from a shoe repair store for leather to wood. There are other accepable glue options listed.

What's wrong with good old stinky contact cement. Seems as though that should hold up fine. Pretty much sticks any surface to any surface.
