I recently spent a day of turning with Keith Burns. I got inspired to try a piece similar to the ones Keith does so well. I don't claim to have Burned this one, but I guess it could have ended up worse. The entire piece stands about 9-1/2" tall and a little over 3" wide. The vessel is about 4-1/4" tall.

Mark that could have ended up much much worse. You did your teacher proud, i am sure of it.

Mark, that is an extremely well done piece! Love the finial work with the surprise under the lid. Did you run a tenon through the lid and through both of the small sweetgum turnings?

Beautiful work Mark! Very nice touch on the finials! And - your photos are always right on the money!

Would have enjoying sitting in on the turning session! Imagine it would have saved me a few years in the design portion of the vortex!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing!

Mark, this piece is great. I really like the finial shape. I have been trying to find the right shape myself, but looks like you nailed it to me.

Well done.

Mark,

Very nice piece like the entire package and I knew there had to be a good reason to drop that sweet gum in the back yard lol.

Very nice looking piece. Great spalting in that sweet gum, and the blackwood is a great match. Great photos as well.
