I had a day off so I cored the largest blank from the oak burl. They turned out great. I will return the bark edge bowls in a couple days. I got 9 out of this blank.
Jack
blank almost roughed out. It was a very large chunk of wood.

Nice work, making that look way too easy. If I had that wood, that space, and those machines I would be smilin' too.:D

Those are going to be a really nice looking set.

Jack, You are getting pretty darn good with that oneway coring tool! The burls you get are some of the best I have ever seen in oak. I am envious of you! They should be wonderful when the finish is on them.

Thanks everyone, the burl is very nice. I still have one big blank left to core so with luck I will have 27 bowls when it is done. As far as the shop I cored these in my school shop. The blank was 18" in dia and very tall which allowed me to core two bowls off the blank after I had cored the natural edge set. The depth makes it hard for me to core on my oneway lathe at home. I like using the tail stock for extra support when coring large bowls and the outboard side of my lathe is just a little short for this deep of blank anyway and the inboard side of a 1640 has a 16" swing.
Thanks again,
Jack
