Heres a Maple and Walnut Desk I just finished for a nook. Top and legs are 8/4 maple. Stretcher and dowels are walnut.

Heres the top. It has one curly piece in the middle.

Interesting design. I like it. It has a whimsical "pre-school" sort of a flavor but the thickness and dimensions give it a solid stance. Very cool.

Thats a nice.. simple.. sturdy and functional design. I really like the simple approach you took as the function is definitely there and not much to get in the way of the function.

I like it alot! The round holes on each side make it very unique.

Thanks, also the sides are dead flush and smoothed well. Makes the transition nicely.
