I am going to the Knoxville,TN area in April to see a new grand daughter and I was wondering if there were any places of interest for woodturners. You know places where someone could pick up a "souvenir" or two. Thanks, Greg

A visit to the Wood turning studio at the John Campbell Folk School is always fun. I often stop after work to meet their instructor of the week and see the student's work. The school is located in Brasstown, NC a little SE of Murphy.

Hope you enjoy the mountains.

Well I did a little research and that place would make an excellent vacation. I have ridden my motorcycle through the area and it is beautiful. I read the history of the school and I would like to spend a week there honing my skills. Thanks for the excellent idea, Greg

Arrowmont has the school, artists-in-residence and a shop right in Gatlinburg about 6 blocks from the entrance to GSMNP.

The Southern Highland Craft Guild operates the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville.

They also have a store and Artist's demos at Flatop Manor right on the Blueridge Parkway near Blowing Rock, NC.

Greg, You are welcome. Give me a shout when you make it to Western NC. There are many talented wood turners here, myself NOT included.

If you ride a motorcycle you will love The Tail Of The Dragon.

Yes sir. I rode the Tail of the Dragon about 6 years ago and it was great. The whole area up there is a rider's delight. We stayed in Robbinsville and did a bunch of rides. Motorcycle riders's Heaven. Thanks again for the replies. Greg

Kevin, Thanks for the information. I spent about 2 hours on the Arrowmont website looking at the resources and reading the articles. I appreciate it. Greg

I usually go on the AAW web site: www.woodturner.org (http://www.woodturner.org) and check to see if any chapter meetings are being held in areas when and where I'll be there. I sometimes adjust my itenerary so I can attend. Every chapter I've ever visited welcomed me with open arms. I've met some really nice people this way and seen some great demos.
