I had to shoot at a Motocross track yesterday for an event and one of my friends arrived with some items to trade me for some pictures of himself and his fiancee'.

He couldnt remember what tye of wood it was from but its got a ton of character, and he brought me some reading materials!

Congrats on your score! Quick guess because of the color - possibly Box Elder Burl? Looking forward to seeing what you turn out of it!

I'm almost ready to turn a bowl:D The Jet I have now isnt quite up to the job so i'm thinking of snagging a Delta Midi when I go pick up my bandsaw.

Nice looking blank... Could be a lot of things but maple Burl was the first thing that came to mind. Looking forward to seeing the finished form.

Good gloat! Those old American Woodturner magazines should provide some interesting insights into how it was done in the "olden days" and may provide an inspiration for that blank as well.
