A co-worker who bought a mini after I gave him a pen was at a job site where they were doing some road work. They were digging about 6 ft. down when the came across some logs. So he grabbed a few pieces & gave 2 small pieces to me. They were solid, soaking wet & ink black. 146496
Turned the small branch into a goblet. Outside turned easy, could not touch the inside end grain. Ended up drilling with a Forster, then shaping the inside. Went easy until rounding the bottom, what a bear. Turned a captive ring but broke in my hand as I was sanding it. So did not go to thin on the stem. Smelled like nasty stirred up swamp mud when I started to turn it by time I was done it smelled like horse poo. Sanded to 220 & parted off. This is what it looked like just off the lathe146497
Wrapped in wax paper then into bag with shavings. Once dried re sanded. 146498 3 coats of minwax wood-sheen & renaissance wax.146500
This piece has no dye or colouring just stained from mother earth
