Buffets in Atlantic City?

The wife and I will be going down to Atlantic City this weekend (25 - 27th) to celebrate our 20th anniversary and I am wondering about any great dinner and breakfast buffets that might be available. I have been searching the casino/hotel websites for info and have gotten a few, but I figured what the heck, throw it out there on this forum and see what anyone might have experienced. Any suggestions?

Check out www.chowhound.com (http://www.chowhound.com). (Might be chowhounds.com) When my wife and I are heading for new desitinations, we always check with that site. People post about the great "eateries" in hundreds/thousands(?) of cities around the globe.

I can't tell you where to go, but I can tell you where not to go :)

Anything Trump is miserable from my experience.

The Hilton had the best buffet I've ever eaten at in my life. Went there the next year, said it was closed that day. Noticed 70% of all the other restaurants were closed as well. Had a miserable experience, called Hilton when I got home to complain about how miserable it was (over 80 degrees in both rooms we rented, bathroom issues in both rooms, evacuated our floor at 3:00am and made us stand in the lobby until after 4:00am, etc, etc, etc....), and when I called them, they looked it up and said that they had sold that hotel and it was no longer owned by Hilton, even though it had their name on it. They said Travelocity of one of those big places had bought it. I wasn't aware that some of those online places own the places they are hocking.

So all in all, you can mark the Hilton off too.

Went over to the Tropicana and they had a decent one. Kinda small, but decent. Not something I'd be looking at for celebrating a special event, but the Tropicana had tons of great food places in there. It's like a mall inside the place. Caeser's had an okay buffet.

I asked hotel workers where to go and they all told me Tropicana. So I'm not sure if we had different expectations from them or what.

None of it's cheap either. You're looking at $25 each for every place I named.

Hope that helps in some small way and I'll follow this thread if someone does post some good stuff so I can try it out next trip up.

Thanks Scott. You are correct in the pricing. I have been doing some research by way of all of the casino websites and dinner buffets range, on average from $20 to $25, which is fine with me. We will probably only do one dinner buffet and no doubt, one breakfast buffet. At least that is what we are planning. To be honest, my wife won the bonus number many years ago in the NJ lottery and they had an annul lottery night for all of the bonus number winners, so we went down and stayed overnight at one of the Trump hotel casinos (where the lottery event was held) and I have to say, I was absolutely impressed with the breakfast buffet at that time. That is kind of why we are looking forward to hitting a buffet or two. It sounds as if the Trop might be the place we look at.

IMHO, the Borgata is the only bearable casino to do anything at because it is the only one that doesn't have any day-tripper bus traffic. The problem is that the bus trips come with a free buffet meal, so the buffet lines at those casinos are packed with day-trippers.

Personally, I think the buffets are way overrated. There is much better cheap food in AC. If you want to eat in the casinos, try the delis. They are reasonably priced and (I think) much better than the buffets. If you're gambling, it's not hard to "earn" enough comp dollars at any of the casinos to buy food for the weekend. In fact, some of the casinos will give you free meals just for signing up for their comp card.

Also, there are tons of excellent restaurants outside the casinos. There is even a newly re-built mall on the boardwalk (I think it's called Ocean One) that has tons of restaurants in all shapes, sizes, and styles.

Tom, I grew up in Lambertville and live just outside of it now. Sergeantsville is only maybe fifteen minutes away also. Oh......I see.....you were kidding there.

Can't really help you with the buffets but if you are looking for a restaurant I can recommend the Italian restaurant (forget the name) in the Trop. Food is pretty good and the prices are not unreasonable. Harrah's has a half-decent restaurant (forget the name) down past the pool area for lunch. There is a PF Chang's in the Trop but the food there is hit-or-miss. Stay away from The Sound of Philly in the Trop - food was aweful in my opinion. I believe Woofgang Puck has a place in the Borgata, I have never eaten there but his places seem to have a decent reputation.

I agree with Steve about the day-trippers and the lines at places other than the Borgata but I still end up at the Trop because I like their card room.
