Walnut finish question

I'm working on a small step stool for my grandaughter. It will be walnut. I would like a nice finish that will not create a slip hazard for her. Any help would be appreciated. Yes I will post a picture.

The only thing I can think of that isn't slippery in socks is grip tape, or non clear finishes and that defeats the purpose of using walnut. Bare feet and shoes are just fine on any surface unless wet. Unless she is using it in the shower I would not be too concerned about the slipperiness of clear finishes.
