Not long ago I remember seeing something about using a solution of DAWN detergent to "dry" bowl blanks for turning. Anybody got that website?

Thanks,
Greg

liquid dishsoap will do the job as long as it isn't colored. I use Joy clear liquid soap in a 4 to 1 measure (4 water to 1 soap) and it has worked great. Rough turn your bowl, then immerse it in the soap for several days. Take it out and let it dry for several more days and finish turning. It turns like a dream. The soap lessens the distortion and cracking. It doesn't guarantee it, because it depends on the wood, but it has significantly reduced my issues. I've used it on Walnut, Oak, Cherry, Maple and Poplar so far. You still have to wait for it to dry thoroughly before final sanding and adding a good finish coat. Good luck and have fun.
