I have been using a machine made, impulse hardened ryoba so it is past time for an upgrade. Here are some options I have considering.
(1) Hishika, from The best things, tapered, hammered, hand tempered, $94
(2) Mitsukawa from Hida tools, specially hardened for hardwoods. $88
(3) Harima-Daizo from Tools for working wood, hardended for hardwoods $62
(4) Nagoake from Japan woodworker, tapered, hammered, individually tempered, $90
(5) Lee Valley traditional ryoba, tapered, $48

Can anyone make a recommendation or suggest other options.

I use my saws on every type of wood I have on hand, including hardwoods. How important is it to have one "engineered" for that? Is it a crime to use a "regular" $100 ryoba on hardwoods?
