Hi All,
Here is another vase to display. It is about 7 1/2" tall by 5 1/2" o.d.. The wood is some firewood beech. Has some spalting and some curl to it. My high tech photo tent is a blueprint on my desk at work.
Thanks for looking.

Todd - looks pretty good! How thin did you turn the vase? What finish did you use?

Nice work, Todd!! I love that wood - looks very much like maple. The finish looks excellent.

That is really nice. I heard that beech can really be a "beech" to work with, pardon the pun. How did you deal with warping and all the things you hear about beech?

Looks good. I seem to be examining every piece for possibilities before I toss them in the woodstove now.:)

Thanks for the kind words. I sanded to 600 gr and between each grit I sanded with the grain. The finish is a two coat hand application of BriWax natural and hand buffed with a soft towel. The Beech isn't that bad to work with. This piece sat on the lathe for two weeks. I had the outside done and the inside mostly done when my wife took ill and spent a week in the ICU. When I got back to it, it had warped out of round nearly 1/4" and the tenon had warped so the piece ran out by nearly 1/2". I took it off the lathe, made a cone center to drive it with and trued it up between centers. It ended up with a wall thickness of around 1/4", give or take. I almost tossed it in the scrap pile, but I figured it's only time so I gave it a chance and it came out OK.
Thanks,
TT
