And raise you one!

What's wrong with this picture??

Thought I would try some new stuff for me, a little relief carving and pyro. Figured I would do it before hollowing, cause if I hosed it up I wouldn't waste my time hollowing.

Well the results were ok, not great, but for a first, the lessons learned were good. Let's hollow. Everything going well.

Oops!

Now I can blow up something as good as the rest of you guys out there, you know who you are. But this one was a bit of a shocker. The walls are still pretty hefty all the way down the sides. Was having some difficulty in the bottom, but didn't think I was getting thin. No catch just a nice quick release. Looked really pretty for a second spinning on the Stinger.

Didn't look too bad in the chuck.

What does Ellsworth say, if you ain't breaking something, you aint tryin'.

Really nice work. A shame about the hole--surely you will find a decorative way to plug it up!!

You know, I kind of like it in the upside-down version. If you plug the former neck and smooth the new rim, it would still look pretty cool. Still, it's always a heartbreaker!

I'd plug it with something black to match the pyro work! Looking forward to seeing the creative fix!

I would just finish off the part 'bottom' and put in the shelf upside down. No one will know it has a hole in it unless they pick it up!:D

I'm sure you'll come up with something to fix it!

Mark, I am confident that you will save this piece, and just let me say that I like what you have done with the pyro work and carving - very nice!

Very nice work on the "initial" piece, I'm sure the end result will be equally well done. They always tell me this is a design opportunity, just another challenge, a good chance to have the creative juices flow, etc, etc., etc. I'm not sure that ever made me feel warm & fuzzy, but it "is" the truth, we just have to suck it up & move forward:D:D:D!
It'll be a treat to see what your creative juices will provide us with your completed pics.

Mark that is one pretty piece. Knowing you, you will be showing a finished product soon. Plug the bottom and finish it.

Plug the bottom and make it a lamp. Then you have an excuse for the hole. You needed it for the cord :)

It's pretty... what do you think about a small ebony/blackwood foot with it displayed in the position shown in the second photo(pyro at the bottom). Then, leave the top edge as it is(rough or should I say 'textured')with more pyro embellisment. I think it might look cool that way.

Great job on the pyrography.

Leave it alone -- put a $900 pice tag on it --- put it in an upscale art gallery, give it a fancy name.

Art is art as long as you call it such...

Very pretty turning! Almost every HF disaster I have had has been at that spot. Hope you can do something to make it work!
