Bucks County PA/Princeton NJ newbie needs help

I picked up a few clearance planes from Hartville tools sometime last summer and just got around to finally trying to use them. It became clear quite quickly that I have no idea what I'm doing with a hand plane, and don't even know what good looks like. I'm trying to balance out my power tool usage and especially reduce my sanding.

Are there any Creekers in the Bucks County/Princeton NJ area that wouldn't mind showing me how to properly set-up and use a hand plane?
