Well, another weekend has come and gone.

I finally finished up the sewing machine cabinet and am anxious to get this thing out of my shop and to it's owner. Worked in the shop getting things cleaned up, worked in the yard and tried to rest some over the weekend.

Many of the Onlay pieces had to be reattached. Of course they came to me in "several" pieces and in the drawers. It was like trying to put together a wooden jigsaw puzzle. Of couse, not all the pieces were there, so a couple of them are missing from the finished cabinet.

<img src="http://home.alliancecable.net/~tapmomof4/Finished-1412.jpg">

The drawer shelves were mostly cracked up, in pieces, corners busted and such from years of abuse. Needless to say, these also took me a while to get back together.

<img src="http://home.alliancecable.net/~tapmomof4/Finished-2413.jpg">

I really liked the fleck in this veneer on this cabinet. I only removed the old shellac finish, cleaned it up some, made necessary repairs and put Dark Garnet Shellac on in one coat, then applied 4 coats of Blonde Shellac. This got me back to "really close" to the original color and finish of what was on there.....minus all the old oil and dirt of course.

<img src="http://home.alliancecable.net/~tapmomof4/Finished-3416.jpg">

All in all, it was a good experience but I'm GLAD it O V E R!!!

So what did you do this weekend?

Best of Weeks to you all......

Nice. One of these days I am going to have to breakdown and get myself a digital camera. Hopefullly by the end of the week I may have the pics developed of this past weekend. My wife and I actually worked on 2 projects that were not for the shed or jigs.

Got a head start on some X-mas gifts. I am making a number of candle boxes(AKA...junk collectors). Resawed a bunch of burls for the tops and even for the sides(for the family members I like more..... ). Will post pix when some are completed.

Nicely done ! I sometimes hate repair/refinish work too. You did an excellent job on it!

Me I did nothing but walk around on my property an take a picture of a tree with a hornets nest some odd shaping in branches and a very nice burl on it with my daughter. Went to the park with my kids and just had fun.

Interesting thing to note about these sewing machines, they are not as rare as the technology would make one think. The model you are showing looks like the model 66 circa 1910, nicknamed "redeye" because of it's red tones. The most notable feature is the 3 drawers on each side. considering it's almost 100yrs old one would think that is has great value when in fact they only are worth about 100.00-200.00$ US. (yes I have repaired a few. :P )

Another great weekend! Beautiful days Sat and Sun! A lot of shop time. Should be working on my punch list but I wanted to play with my new toys instead.

Found a new eatery, lots of fun, ambiance and great music. (MPLS and surrounding folks. Check out Loring Pasta Bar in Dinki Town. )

Milled up some recycled oak for use in my kitchen. The Festool Rotex, DeWalt 734 and Jet 1200DC, all made me proud.

Nice Job Dennis! Real Nice!;)

I posted the Fireplace Mantel I built, but there was more this weekend.

Friday watched Van Helsing and Soul Plane, both were interesting. I also watched Bionicals 2 with my son.

Removed rotten trim on three windows which included the seal nose, brick molding and some other miscellaneous trim. Replaced with never rot and sealed back up with caulk and paint. I have three more windows requiring some level of trim replacement. Weather permitting next weekend, I'll attack those.

Delivered the Morris Chair (see other post).

Outdoor yard work including winterization of things like the pond. I must say it was a busy weekend.

Great job, Dennis! That looks super.

My weekend was spent standing for long periods of time on a concrete floor helping out my friends at Mini Max in the booth at the Woodworks show in Ft. Washington PA. Thank goodness for great shoes! (ECCO) I did get to meet a number of Creekers in person, too...

Of course, the show was not "free", despite the great parking for "vendors" and warm company. The plastic jumped out of the wallet a few times...Adjust-A-Bench (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=13609) was the major purchase, but I also ordered the Lee Valley Veritas Medium Shoulder Plane and picked up four Bessey K-body 31" clamps. (I didn't have that size but often needed something between 24" and 40") Obligatory pic of the plane (will recieve in 3-4 weeks) shown below. No shop time, obviously, other than throwing the stuff in there when I got home before a nice warm shower and dinner with Dr. SWMBO.

Really nice job on the sewing machine cabinet. I'm sure you will be glad to free up the space it is taking.

Spent a lot of time in the shop but have nothing but a large pile of shavings to show for it as I spent most of my shop time readying stock for some projects I have due. Two jewelry boxes I am commissioned for Christmas presents. Thank goodness they are not very complicated.

It turned a little cooler here and my wife got the soup bug. She makes truly wonderful soups but since they are hearty hot dishes we usually have them in cooler weather. Sunday afternoon she made a favorite, a hearty, rich, savory concoction of King Mackerel, potatoes, onions, celery and cream. One of my favorites. Sort of a clam chowda with King Mackerel instead of clams. Not exactly a low cal dish but a good one. Definitely has the good ol' Big Mike seal of approval. :D

Have a good week...

I got little done in the shop this weekend. I messed up three successive legs for my guitar stand when I was routing the roundovers. At that point I gave up. I did get my son's el-cheapo dresser fixed. I replaced a couple of plastic runners with some I made out of hard maple. Those aren't going anywhere!

The big events of the weekend were the Song of Solomon marriage conference with my wife and 1,998 other friends (highly recommended - look on songofsolomon.com for details), and going to see The Incredibles with my family. A really fun flick, great for families, lots of laughs, and a really cool "look". Definitely worth your time.

Not a lot of shop time this weekend. Did have some fun, minor gloat - will post later - I purchased a sanding station, with belt, disc and sleeve sander. Just about broke my back getting it together but it's worth the effort.

Delivered the shelves I was asked to make - the lady liked them - so that's good.

Did manage to glue up a few blocks for some bandsaw boxes.

Otherwise a nice calm weekend.

Been working on a pine staircase. Got the stringers and treads in place sat.
Back to shop to fimish spraying the newels and balisters for installation this week.
Was turning a 9" platter on the lathe. Got it down to 1/8" thick, then it blew when I was finishing up the rim. It went south all the way to Arkansas and flew by D. Peacocks head. It is firewood now.:(

Well, got a little more framing done in the basement shop. Looks like all I'm gonna squeeze out of it is 18'X24'. Not bad considering all I had in the old house was 9'X15'. This looks like a dance hall to me.:D

Got some good yardwork done...the oak tree is shedding pretty good now. :(

Completed the installation of the Armstrong decorative acoustical tile cieling over the weekend and it looks freakin great. If I have to say so myself - and I do. The room is really beginning to look like a new place now. This Thursday the gas company crew is coming out to install the propane storage tank that will service the fireplace and then I can "skin" the bare fireplace frame, which will, after some minor last minute trim details, allow me to move ahead with the installation of the Pergo floor.

I have to say, for never having installed one of these cielings before - it's really quite simple. As with most stuff, the quality of the job is determined by the preparation beforehand. Nailing up all of the lathe on 12" centers was a pain But it was certainly necessary and once that was done, after a quick squaring up of the cieling, the tiles almost went in by themselves. Once you've established a square dimension, the tiles are pretty much self-aligning.

As I posted in an earlier thread, I installed two more pieces of the wall unit I am working on. One more to go...

Mowed up a bunch of leaves, had the son and his family over for dinner and to watch the Redskins win one. :D

Located the last of the cherry for the trim molding pieces.

Spent the real weekend working.. again... My weekend starts tomorrow night with spraying texture in a bathroom, and the next day installing granite tile countertop on the vanity. I will only get one day of work in this week on the bath... I desparately can't wait to finish the bath remodel and move on to some of MY projects....

Beautiful work on the sewing cabinet Dennis! The finish looks excellent.

I got into the shop and cleaned it up as well as got the bench framing completed. I also got the top on it and the braces for the wheels. I mounted them inboard and up under the outside frame. The wheels will not be readily visible.

The top has been drilled for the first row of dogholes, the edge has been rounded over and the top sanded to 150 so far. Today we got the
bottom and the backside on as well as the strips of wood mounted to the framing for the other panels to be nailed to.

A side note to anyone who might buy the Home Depot $28.88 Birch. We have four sheets picked out and found that they were not flat. It's as if the top layer had big bubbles in it. You couldn't tell right away, but running your fingers over the 'figuring' you could tell it was the veneer bubbling. We bought
Arauco's Pine plywood instead for $30.95 a sheet. It's great on one side and a little rough on the other, but still better than the Birch/Maple. I just found out that this plywood comes from Chile and the company that makes it is called Arauco. Not sure what kind of Pine it is, but it compliments the SYP and Spruce we used on the framing and top.

Here's the pics of the bench and the progress made yesterday. The next post will have pics of the bench as it sits tonite.

We cut the bottom 3/4 shy on all four sides for a place to nail the panels to, then used strips of 3/4"x3/4" pine for nailers on the other surfaces. The center dividers go in next then the face frame can be cut and nailed to the strips. The idea is for the carcase to be flush with the framing to leave it exposed.

The center will get the squirrel cage and the other two areas will be storage and shelves. I also plan to install two four plug jockey boxes, one at each end.

Mike that recipe even smells good through the computer. We(I) made a robust and hearty steak/vegetable soup as the weather turns chilly. Put in a fire and enjoy....

Spent most of Sat. monring putting a "band aid" on a corner of the house, to help keep the weather out, hopefully, until Spring. Most of the remainder of the day, helped my best buddy with re-decking the floor on his trailer. Well, in between watching our Badgers getting "the" ax! :D

Finished up LOML's salt & pepper display. Milled up and started dimensioning a bunch of Cherry for future use for trim. Hope everyone has a great week! :)

Needed something for the SPCA Silent Auction so I made one of those big wooden wristwatches that you can hang up or fold the band and use as a desk clock.

You're too kind, Jerry! Yeah, but Tom always has said that we look alike. The last time he was over he asked if I could double for him in his current movie, so that he could take a little break. :) Yeah. Right. Naw...A celebrity, I ain't.
