I just got a couple of pieces of pin oak! These things are heavy!!!

I've never turned oak before, but from what I've heard I'm pretty sure my little electric chainsaw won't be happy and I'll be doing a lot of tool sharpening.

Anything you want to add??

Pin oak moves a lot and wants to crack. Slow drying is the key.
It has beautiful figure though, so it is worth the effort.

I know Curt Fuller turns Pin Oak quite a bit - you may want to drop him a PM.

Nice wood, Gary. When you split the one with the branches, cut it down through both branches. I bet it will give you better figure that way.
