View Full Version : ever heard of "Inga" or "Ingas" wood?

I've been asked to do some repairs on a slab table top, including adding some bowties and filling some voids with epoxy.

The slab is about 10' x 32" - 40", and between the dark reds in the center and the light browns-to-blonde at the edges the best way to describe the color is to say the whole thing looks like a nice piece of uncooked bacon.

It's a tropical, possibly indonesian wood that the owner called "ingas".
The only info i could dig up on the web is from wikipedia, basically acknowledging the genus 'inga' and stating that there are hundreds of species within it.

The only other info the owner had is that it is a possible skin irritant. Great.

So my question is, does anyone have any experience using or working with this stuff, particularly in the areas of epoxy adhesion and routing?

I'll try to snap a few pics today of a different but similar slab to the one that needs repair.

Thanks in advance...

-Roger

Never hears of it.

But Deni Irawan from right here in the Creek is from Indonesia and posts some amazing woods. Try a private message to Deni and he might have some ideas.

I've never heard of it before, either, but apparently it's used as a shade tree in Andean coffee plantations (Colombia, etc.). I believe it's considered a legume (produces seed bearing pods, which can be edible.)
