I picked up a used 52-963 band saw enclosed base I think with 3/4 hp, with plans to add a riser kit so i can cut bowl rounds ready for the lathe.Well this saw will never be able to handle anything over the 6 inches that it now cuts(struggling the whole time)I have a new blade on the saw from Highlands made for the woodturner and it cuts ok when pushing straight into the blade but the slightest turn seems to slow or stop the blade.I have the tension up and the blocks close but not touching.I am think that I may just need to up the HP on this thing??? Or do I sell it and get something bigger???I really what to be able to cut somthing thicker that 6 inches on occation but not as it is now.Any thoughts??

What blade are you using? That makes all the difference.
You can turn the saw on, and use a sharpening stone to smooth the BACK edges of the blade. That will help.

You have the tension up? That's no good.
Search here for "flutter method".

this is the blade i have http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/woodturners-bandsawblade.aspx
I have the tension up to where the blade moves with and firm finger push about 1/8 inch
