I call this piece "nut" for obvious reasons. Black & white ebony, 4" "diameter", 2" tall semi closed form. what do y'all think?

I like it... It's an interesting shape, and perfectly executed I think. That's a nice chunk of wood, and the finish is great.

Interesting idea. Well done. Made a little bigger and it could be a nut bowl that could hold some nuts! Will have to remember that thought if I want to make one for a mechanic friend.

Brian,
That is a cool piece. Looks great, did you make it with someone in mind or was it just an idea. I have a good friend that is a mechanic and he wants a piece from me, this may fit the bill.

Brian, that is a very unique shape, and very well done. The wood suits the form very well, and a great finish.
Did you start with an octagon shape, or do that after turning the form?

Karl,
The finish is as follows: micro meshed to 2300grit then mylands friction polish to bring out the luster, the flats are hand buffed to high gloss.;)
John,
I started with the octagon. I took the same approach as making a square bowl. The interesting part is I had the idea for this piece while I was working on another long term project.:)
