I was thinking about building a vacuum press system, and I was wondering if the vacuum pump from HF would work or do I need to get a more expensive model from a press kit company. here are the pumps I speak of:
2.5 cfm vacuum pumphttp://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/gifs/clear.gifhttp://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=98076
two stage 3 cfm vacuum http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=66466
I also intend on using the pump for a vacuum chuck on my lathe. Just wondering if the cheepie pump will work or not.
Thank for your input.

You can get what's probably a higher-quality pump from joewoodworker.com for just about the same money. http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Vacuum-Pump---Rietschle-Thomas-315-CFM-120-VAC-Condition-Rebuilt.html

If you want a vacuum pump, there is virtually only one brand name to buy - Gast.
About a 4 cfm one for $70:

Listen to Jamie.
I have a 5cfm pump from joe woodworker. They are relatively inexpensive and there are a ton of thing you can do with it. I bought mine mainly for vacuum clamping in the shop. I also made a bag from the same place. I am usingit for some doors I have to make.
Hope that helps.

+1 for Joe Woodworker.
Joe is a class act. If you order from him you will get your delivery within days. He does not mess around. Plus, there are other things you need with a pump, hoses, gauges, etc. that Joe has and will sell at competitive prices. I bought the recondition 3 CFM pump from him for $119.
Joe's site is a wealth of information and worth a visit just for that, too.
