Here is a picture of the cedar blank I cut out the other day.It measures in at 11" wide x 5 1/2" tall.Should I make this all one bowl or slice it and make two more shallower bowls? I hope I can get the 11" part turned on my lathe.I know I will not be able to get the banjio under it but maybe I can still work it out.

My sinuses would plug solid in two breaths butt oh what a beautiful bowl that will be. If you had shipped that to me like you should  have I would try for a big bowl. I cant wait to see the end results either way. That is eastern incense ceder isn't it?

i would turn it as one big bowl - large blanks are not that easy to come by (for me, anyway) and you will see plenty of smaller ones, i'd bet.

Go big... No doubt about it.

One big bowl. Did you save the cutoff for other projects - bottle stoppers - ornaments, etc.

That is Aromatic Cedar and it made the whole shop smell great when it was cut.I do have plenty more of it.

Good looking cedar.

While we are on the subject of cedar, anyone have any tricks to prolong the pink from turning brown?

A friend of mine works with about 90% Cedar and I was told that when a project is done you need to add tung oil until it will not take in anymore.Let it set and dry overnight and repeat the process again. After the 3rd coat let it dry and add poly to it. If it's a soon to be project make sure you keep it out of the light. That will help keep its color.

One large bowl. It's harder to find large blanks than it is two small blanks.

I'd go with a shallow bowl and a platter.
