Robert - pretty cool pen! The photo is a little blurry but I can make out a 58 cal mini-ball and a 44 bullet! Sure to grab some attention!

Nice work Robert! Looks like you may have been a little close when the pic was taken, or did not set the macro on the camera. Details are a little blurry.
...I can make out a 58 cal mini-ball and a 44 bullet!Neat way to incorporate these elements!
curious what makes it a civil war pen? thanks patrickPatrick, I don't do pens, but my guess would be exactly what Steve has noted. Those projectiles were the blood and guts of the war - literally!

Patrick, The clip is an 1861 Springfield musket that was used by both sides during the war. Steve is correct on the 58 cal mini-ball cap and 44 bullet tip.
Sorry about the picture, I will try again!

I hadn't seen that kit yet... It looks great. It looks like a pen with a little heft to it which I really like.

Nicely done, Robert. I just ordered a couple of those kits to try out. Civil War buffs should love them since the 58 cal mini-ball cap and 44 bullet tip are actual size replicas.

Very nice job.
I've made two of these kits. They are not a pretty pen (IMHO) but are attention getter's. I made mine with elk antler. Put the Second Amendment on one and the Confederate and Union flags on the other.
I like the Camo you did.

Paul, I realize that camouflage was not used much in the Civil War but I thought it looked good. I have made several in blue and gray stabilized buckeye burl just to be PC.

Hummm That gets me to thinking, how about a dark blue blank (maybe dyed hickery) with a yankee flag and a grey one with the confederate flag?
And the camo does look good. I like it. I mean, elk antler doesn't really have anything to do with the civil war, but I like it.

That's sounds good Paul, how do you get the flags on the blanks? I took a couple to the range today and had a lot of interest in them.
