This is the first set of bowls I cored from the oak burl. It was the smallest of 3 blanks I have to core. The largest bowl is just over 16" in dia. I have them in a plastic bag until I can turn them down to finished thickness and start drying them. I got 9 bowls from this blank 7 bark edge and 2 without bark that I cored off the bottom of the largest bowl.

Thanks everyone. my work is really just now starting on this set. I cored them with a OneWay coring system and love it. I put them in a plastic bag to keep them wet for the few days it will be until I get a chance to turn them to their finished thickness. To mount them I will reverse chuck each bowl and turn a small tenon on them and then mount the tenon in the chuck and turn them down. I will then put them in paper bags or card board boxes to dry and keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks again,
Jack

WOW Jack You sure got a lot of bowls from that burl, looks like the Oneway coring does pay for itself in no-time flat, how hard was it to core those bowls Jack ?? and how much time did it take you to do all those bowls ??.
Maybe I should get a corer for my lathe

Leo,
After roughing out the blank it took me just over one hour to core this set of 9 out. The OneWay system is very very easy to use. I turned them to finished thickness yesterday and all looks great so far. If you keep you eyes looking for a sale at Heartville Tool the system goes on sale from time to time and you can save some money if you do get the system. I payed for my coring system and made a little profit from the first set I cored with it.
Thanks again,
Jack

Thanks for the reply Jack :D, I hope you will show some pictures of this set you did core :).
How long have you had the coring tools and what are the smallest/largest pieces you are able to make with the coring system

Jack, did you do all the coring with one of the knife sets? Or, did you have to purchase a couple of the knife sets to core that many from the blank?

That's been my confusion about getting the oneway. The McNaughten looks like it would be a bit more flexible with 2 or 3 different knives with the system.

I've got a 16" swing, and figured that's what I would have to get with the oneway, but does that give me the capability to cut a number of different size cores under that? Thanks, and great looking cores there!

Thanks again, Steve you have to have all 4 knife sets to do this many bowl sizes. I can get up the 3 bowls from one knive sometimes but normally only get 2 from each blade. For a 16" lathe you might get by without the #4 kife set. Leo, I've had the system for over two years now, but it was easy to use right out of the box. You can core a tiny little bowl with the #1 set say around 4". I have the McNaughten set, but never use it. The oneway is just way easieir.
