Here's a bowl I turned yesterday. It's 6" x 2" with same finish I use on the pens, Hut. sides are about 3/16 thick.

Earl, you do nice work. I have never turned any purpleheart except as a pen. How does it turn? Pretty hard, dense wood?

Brave man...I've turned one purple heart bowl and am unlikely to do it on a whim again! very hard wood and you really have to be careful of splinters. But it does look oh-so-nice when you finish it up as yours does. Nice job.

Thanks for the kind remarks. I had some problems with th end grain, I was going to cut it up for pen blanks, but I decided to use it for a house warming gift.

Earl, agreed with Jim B.; You ceratainly ARE one brave soul! :) Sure turned out beautiful, though! Question: Did you *ever* turn off your grinder while doing that bowl?! Heck, even doing a Purpleheart pen, I find myself going to the grinder more often! Anyhow, looks GREAT!

Great Job Earl !
Nice shape and I like the rim also.
I have made some pens out of purple heart try not to do many at one time! I made 9 pens in a row and it gave me a little rash on my arms did it bother you?

hi earl, again nice work .you mentioned end grain, did you have to tackle it in any special way due to the denseness of purple heart?

I had no reactions to the wood, the only wood that bothered me was 15 yrs ago with Padauk, I was laid up about a week, no more of that. I had to go very light while turning the outside, no problems on inside, and I had to touch up the tools more than normal.
Thanks for looking
Earl
