I will get all of this I want when it comes down which will be soon. Any idea what it is? I do have some pics of the top if needed.

Whatever it is, it's sure a gnarly sucker!!
Would love to see what's inside when it's cut.

Do you have good pics of the leaves? Does it drop seed pods or nuts? Can it leap a small house in a single bound :)

Hurly Burly! Crotchety Splotchety!

That thing looks like something Sigourney Weaver might like to take a flame torch to!

Man, it takes a woodworker to appreciate what's inside of there, huh? I hope you post the alien autopsy when you get it.

I'll tell you what it is... It's hideous!

Cut it into large flat rate sized pieces and send it all over the country where it can be turned into shavings. I'd send the first piece to the center of the US, say Enid, Oklahoma.:D

This group will help you disseminate the chunks because we care.;)

Looks like you had better take a metal detector to that thing, OMG I can only imagine...

Looks like a yard tree that could be full of nails, staples, wire, and/or bullets so use caution when cutting this one up. A lot of the sawmill guys won't touch a yard tree for this reason. Other than that, I cannot identify it from just these two photos.

It is a yard tree for sure, I have a metal detector. I am trying to get a pic of the full tree but this is the top. It's just starting to bud so no leaves yet.

I'm going out on a limb here :D and say it's a maple of some sort. Be sure to post a pic or two of this thing when you cut 'er up! Be glad to help you turn it.

I wouldn't have a clue - you guys out there on the sunny west coast have a bunch of flora that most of the country has never seen.:)

And, I don't appreciate seeing all the pics from CA showing blue skies and sunshine, when it is dead of winter in KY!!!:D;)

No doubt it has nails, though. Notice the 2x4 nailed to the limb!?

lol, your right John the bare ground makes me sick also lol. I live 60 miles from that tree and I have a foot of new snow with clouds. It will be a week or so before we cut it down.

See if you can take a photo of the buds.

Like John said, the trees that grow in the more temperate climate in Cali are much different than us in the mid west. Just buy the structure and bark kind of reminds me of some of the big flowering crab apple trees whe have here, but if no fruit then that won't work. Could be a big silver maple as the will look like that sometimese too. But until you cut it down or find a local tree specialist we are in the dark.

That being said, it looks to have some wild stuff in it, and should produce something nice.

Have fun and keep us posted,

Jeff

Eric, I called my buddy and asked for a pic of the buds and the whole tree. They took one of the bigger branches off and I hope to get a piece of it today. I will take pics of the cut limb.

This is the best I can do for now. I am going down with a metal detector as there was at one time a tree fort in this thing. I see a mine field:mad:

We have been told by two "tree people" that it is an Almond. The chain saw is sharp and I am chomping at the bit. A few more days and this 70 deg. weather will have the bog that surrounds the tree dry enough to drop it.
