View Full Version : Software: What am I doing wrong?

I've installed the Laser Master 8.5 and the most recent printer driver for my Mercury. The signwarehouse version of Laser Master requires the USB security dongle whcih I have and it is installed and working. But when I go to the Installation Manager, it always activates the program in Demo mode and I cant send to the machine in demo. I cant seem to get beyond this so I decided to try something I have already. From Paint Shop Pro, all I get is the laser to etch a filled box and nothing else. It seems to ignore the vector, raster, layer information. I'm curious what I might be doing wrong.

Does signwarehouse ship these things with a funky firmware that limits their use with other programs by chance? Should I try an older driver? Should I simply be starting with a known program such as Adobe or Corel?

The original owner used serial input and I am using parallel. There is no config for parallel so I assume it is always active and it seems to be receiving my files but this is the output I get which is sized correctly.

Another note, when I tell the driver to only print vector (uncheck raster), the thing goes all the way to the right and starts working backwards on a single line and then stops. Very odd. I think it's not getting the data it needs, I dunno.

Realistically, I should be able to print from anything to the laser shouldnt I? Could I not open Word and do a 2x2 clipart and bring that to the laser? Or is the "printer driver" for the laser misleading in that it truly needs specific cutting information and not typical printer input?

Work direct from Corel with standart driver without any problems - both raster and vector.

You need to set some parameters - for example your design program page size should equal the printers and the colours should correspond with the colour mapping of the driver.
I would reflash the firmware to the latest if you dont have it and as Viktor says - work off Corel
The control panel on the laser itself would say whether it got the job or not , however diagnosing your problem is real difficult cos you have many issues going on right now and you need to whittle it down to one or 2 - start with corel , latest firmware and do the diagnostic tests accessible from the machines control panel.
have a look at this thread for some more info on diagnostics and firmware

Well apparently it is solely a SignWarehouse product. Came with the laser for the sign shop. Uses a Safenet sentinel usb dongle as a security key which is highly annoying and I havent gotten it past demo mode yet.

When will software manufactures realize that by all this anti piracy stuff just hinders PAYING users. You can get cracked versions of just about anything on the Torrent sites.

Thank's, James. Very basic functions so softdog is only to add prestige :)
