Has anybody ever turned Mimosa wood? I have a neighbor taking one out right now, and said I could all I wanted. This is a large tree, planted in 1948, so there is more there than I want, but would like to try it is it is turnable.

Thanks,
Ray

Bob, If you would like some logs I'll pick some up for you and save them here. You can get them when you come to Pasco. Let me know.

It's pretty stuff and nice to turn... The few pieces I've had a chance to turn lost a fair bit of their initial color pretty rapidly, but it's still a nice wood.

Sneezy stuff. Looks not unlike butternut.

Its beautiful wood and turns good while wet. The dust can be a very irritating while sanding, use a mask.

Thanks all, I picked up a few logs today, and will go back tomorrow, and thanks for the advise on the mask.

Paul,
Yep this is what the end of the logs look like. Patti was over visiting Connie today, and I told her to tell you about it. Do you want some?

Save me some pen and pendant size blanks when you cut out your bowl blanks. AND, try out that flat steak she told you about. We had it two nights in a row. Trying to talk her into a third.

Here ya go Donny,
I picked up some of this, but the big pieces I really wanted were just too heavy for this old man. Luckily my good friend, and fellow Creeker Paul Douglass stopped by this morning:), and between the two of us were able to rastle some of the larger pieces into to truck, and back out again. Thank Paul, and I promise next time you stop by I wont ask you to help;) Still some smaller logs left, and I may or may not get any more. We are out of town for eleven days starting tomorrow, and I don't have any Anchorseal. Hope this survives.
