I used red oak, pegged all of the mortises, and finished it with some tung oil. Its 36" wide by 6' long. The trays in the middle lift out. 144745

Very nice looking bench. I would be interested in how it does for planing and such sitting on those casters.

Greg it works fine for planing, I think it has enough mass and all the casters are the double locking ones from Rockler.

Very nice work, I plan on building a woodworking bench in the near future. What was the final material cost?

Todd, I've been looking to build a bench like that and was just wondering. If you don't mind telling me, how much did it cost for wood? Just wood alone, not the vice or fasteners.

Greg and Joe , The price of the wood was free. A buddy of mine bought 14000 bf of red oak with the intention of selling it. He asked me to help him get rid of it, and I could use what I want. The guy he bought it from also had a PM66 5hp tablesaw that had been sitting in a shed for 8 years or so. I got the saw for what I sold my "General" contractors saw for.

Man, seems everyone else gets these lucky free wood deals. I need friends!

Todd, did you build this from a set of plans or a compilation of ideas? Would love to see the framing under the top if you have the time. Thanks Pat

Nice bench:)

Can you flip the trays over to provide a flat surface all the way across?

Very nice bench. It should last long enough for your grandkids to use it. I used the same vise hardware on mine, only in the face position; very cost effective.

todd, that is a damn fine bench!

im very jealous for two reasons
1. you have the bench and i dont
2. you have the room for it and i dont
