I got this wood in Florida last September from Bob Lewis, a friend of my cousin Dave (whom I hadn't seen or spoken to in 40 years - long story).
Java Plum, and WOW, do I love this wood!
It turns nicely and has magnificent rich color.
The other piece I have yet to turn also has some subtle curl in it, I'm going to make some kind of hollow form out of it when I get back home from THIS Florida trip.
The bowl is sanded to 2000 and BUFFED with Renaissance type bar wax.
It measures 7 3/4 inches in diameter by 2 inches high. There was more, but in trying to turn it SUPER thin I managed to lose an inch or more in height and diameter. :(

Great color and the form is well done. I've never turned plum but now have an itch to turn some.

George - beautiful bowl! Amazing color to that wood! Never heard of it before... does it retain the color or does it fade like so many others?

I like it a lot. The coloring reminds me of bloodwood.

Thank you everyone!

I don't know for sure Steve, but I'm going to assume that the color will fade over time.

I like it a lot. The coloring reminds me of bloodwood.
That's what I was thinking too, but this is much lighter than bloodwood.
