I haven't been here in a while but I've been out in the shop working. The is
one pot in a series of decorated platters. It's about 16 inches in dia. and decorated with milk paint.

That's beautiful... I love the crackle effect. The red highlight is a nice touch as well. Great job!

Phil, that is really neat!! The red looks to be a groove, and did you apply the red over the milk paint? Did you use hide glue under the milk paint to get the crackle?

Very nice effect!!

Very nice Phil. After the milk paint is there some kind of top coat on it. It almost looks glazed.

That's quite an unique platter Phil. Awesome idea, I guess I would never have thought about decorating like you did, works very well, and the red perimeter line adds just enough so the milk paint doesn't overwhelm the platter. Nice work!

Very interesting platter. What kind of wood did you use? The paint really livened it up!

Beautiful platter. Paint really did make that piece stand out.

Thanks guys. The platter is turned from maple, the red line is in a grove and was done
with a "Prismacolor" pencil. There are three layers of milk paint, two of a light color and one of black separated by a layer of glue. After all that I applied several layers of finish
with lots of sanding.... the idea being to bring the surface to level. Then wax. Milk paint is great stuff with lots of earthy colors. It seems to bring out the decorator in me.
