If I drilled my own holes would the oneway 1642 24" outboard turning bed work on my Jet 1442 to make it more of a bowl turning lathe?

The Jet 1442 is a Reeves Drive with minimum speed of 450. I don't think this model is designed to handle 24" turning. The speed is dangerously fast for such massive turning. It only has 1" diameter spindle, 1 HP motor. That is the same specs. as the Delta 12-1/2" midi lathe (which has the slower min. rpm). You will also need a new banjo and tool rest. I would not spend so much money to gamble on this experiment.

If you slide the head stock towards the tail stock end, this is already a bowl lathe (without the size capacity).

I was aware of the high price of the banjo and tool rest, but didn't even condsider the speed or HP problem. I guess I'm just going to have to save up for that Robust or Stubby.......
