When placing special orders for building materials at local hardware stores, I've noticed an interesting pattern of behavior emerging. The people at the service counter who are most familiar with the materials are the most wrong about the prices they quote you. They are the ones who immediately know how to find "the book" and look up the price. Alas, they should be using their computers more. Prices change quicker than in the old days.
