Just finished up my shaving bench. Haven't done much with it other than round off a hunk of wood with a draw knife to test it out.

I based this pretty much on a combination of the plans at Green Woodworking site
http://www.greenwoodworking.com/ShavingHorsePlans

And from Bob Razaieski's site (Logan Cabinet Shoppe)
http://logancabinetshoppe.weebly.com/1/post/2008/08/the-2-shave-horse.html

I tried my darndest to make tapered mortises for the legs. Built a couple of different size tapered mortise (scrapers?). The first one was in hard maple and after several attempts at sharpening the saw blade I got it to work, only to discover that the hole it made was too small. The second one was made with oak and I figured it would probably break when using it. Yep.

So I ended up going with through mortises (round) and then cut a kerf in the top of each leg and pounded in a wedge to keep the legs tight. Should suffice.

All in all this was a fun project.

Nice job Jeff! You'll enjoy it. Working green wood on it is even nicer than the dried stuff. With a nice sharp drawknife, it's effortless, enjoyable work. You'll find yourself up to your knees in long, thick shavings in no time :D.

I had my small demo shaving horse out front at the Woodshow and I couldn't believe the woodworkers that came by and had no idea what it was. Amazing, the people there had to keep showing people what it was and how it was used. LOL

Nice-looking shaving horse, Jeff. I'm using one my brother made from an old picnic table bench. I'd like to make a new one sometime.

I went to that greenwoodworking site and it's pretty neat, but i got TOTALLY side tracked when i went to that home page and it says John became Jennie in 2007... Anyone know if the guy in the pictures is now the Jennie?
