While watching the Olympics it dawned on me that my brothers birthday was coming up (today) so I got re-acquainted with my lathe and I turned this little platter of Manitoba Maple 9 1/2" by 2 1/2" and a salad bowl finish. I thought it turned out well. Dirk H

Pretty cool shape... nice to see something a little different. Great bit of spalt and figure in that boxelder/Manitoba maple. Happy Birthday indeed.

Last evening on the TV, there was a short segment during the Curling event where they explored the origins of the Curling Stones. The granite comes from an island off the coast of Scotland and is turned on a lathe to final shape.
