I use one. The chuck is actually the cheapest part to make. The vacuum pump is the most expensive part. There are two tutorials on making a vacuum chuck system under the Woodworking Articles and Tutorials forum here on SMC. They are very handy for finishing off the bottom of a bowl as long as there are no holes or voids in your turning.

I recieved this chuck from harrison specialties .com
It is solid aluminum
Nice quality!

Now I have finally finished a bowl I was having issues with the vacuum pump only pulling 17 now with this chuck I am getting 22

Does anybody have an opinion as to how this compares with the system offered at JT Turning Tools. This would be a lot less expensive than buying an adapter and a chuck hub.

yup much cheaper when you consider
Adapter is $89.00
Hand Wheel Kit $85.00
Precision Vacuum Hub is $69.00
Shipping is 15.00
Total is $258.00
compared to 72 bucks shipped from harrison specialties
