Right now I have the stock knives in my new DeWalt 735 planer. When they wear out I'll take a hard look at either straight carbide knives or a Byrd Shelix.

Straight T1-HSS knives from Global Tooling. I had good luck with them on my jointer which I just upgraded to a Byrd. I'd have upgraded the Parks to a Byrd but even with the SMC discount at Holbren its still nearly $800.

Byrd head in my Dewalt 735. Had to move/flip/replace my stock knives several times in the first 6 months I had the machine. Haven't even thought about it for the last year. And much, much quieter.

Just like the jointer poll most people are using straight knives, more than I expected.
