I have a 12" Grizzly GO609X with the spiral head and am very pleased with its performance. I don't see where I would need anything larger but wouldn't want anything smaller either.

Own a Powermatic PJ882HH. Wish I had a 12". Accually I wish I had a 20" Martin, but that will never happen. 12" is a reasonable expectation for me.

I have an 8" Delta DJ20. The 8" is great but I would really like a 12. I can't see that I would use over the 12" width enough that I could justify it but someday I would like to upgrade to a 12"

As a matter of fact, I recently sold a Hofmann 24" J/P for a friend of mine - most likely the only one of its kind in the US.

Me, a 6 inch Relient. Hopefully I will be able to upgrade to a better 6 inch or 8 inch. Been looking for a restoration but their few and far between.

Yeah for the most part if someone has a nice old jointer they usually don't want to part with them. That's shows the importance of a nice jointer in the shop. I've been on the hunt for a couple years now and still haven't found that old beauty worth restoring.

DJ-20 1987 yr model. The DJ-20 has nice smooth decks and can take a lot of material off quick. I believe I am the 3rd owner but really the 2nd owner to actually use it. Also the construction shop I work at has a ? brand jointer thats 12".
Larry, some would say to sell the wife before a man's tools. :D:D:D Just kidding, keep the wife happy or else you might be out on the front lawn with 1/2 your tools.

I've got a 6" vintage (early 1940s) Craftsman that belonged to my Grandfather, and three 4" units, one Craftsman, one Delta, one Atlas. One of the three 4" runs, the other two are waiting for time to restore them. I keep finding them cheap or free, and they're so cute I can't pass them up. Yes, I have a problem.

4*3 somehow doesn't = 12 in this case. I WANT that 12" Northfield something BAD, but it won't fit in my current shop either. I imagine I'll end up with an 8" someday and be happy with that.

Hi,

I have a Mini Max FS2 which is a 520mm or 20.5" jointer/planer with
tersa 4 knife head. 4 speed planer and it's 92" long overall and has
9 hp 3 phase. It's a killer at 2400" with the mortising table attached.

I assume you mean 2400 pounds, not inches, that would be one huge piece of equipment would fit resonably in the Superdome. If it does weigh a ton and change I guess it takes a "Crane" to move it....:D

G0490X. Like Mith G. I bought a 6" even though EVERYONE here told me I'd be sorry. I was after about 3 days. The 8" has been a good fit for me and there are folks who never need anything over a 6". I'd take a 12" in a heartbeat. Depends what you do.

Ridgid 6". I've had it about 6 years and never needed anything bigger since any wider boards I'll rip in half and glue back together. Makes for a more stable board.

Oh and the jointer was free!:D

I had 6" Delta/Rockwell for a while, even updated to carbide tipped cutting blades. Was quite happy with it until I came across on CL the 8" Grizzly, practically new, it had not even been washed off from the protective oils. This guy was selling off his newly acquired arsenal of Grizzly's after he retired, but soon after decided to go back to work ( I guess he got the offer he could not refuse). I also got from him the 15" planer and lathe.
What a difference these 2" make and the extra long bed is phenomenal too. So, I've got 2, but will be looking to unload the 6" one soon..

I have a 16" Moak I think from the late 30's.
Put a Shelix in it works pretty nice.
Not sure if I am man enough to go any larger.
It's pretty hard to push the large boards thru If you are doing a lot of them.
I think I saw a 20 or 24" with a feeder on it.

6" Central Machinery, I think... It doesn't even have a brand stamp on it. It looks just like all of the other CM stuff though.

It's my first jointer, I have brand new Freud knives installed. It took me a while to get the knives right. In fact, I should probably check them again. My boards look pretty good when I edge or face joint.

Not too bad for $160.

I have a feeder on my 16" jointer for the reasons you mention. If I'm running something like full length 6/4 oak it saves me from quite a workout. For case pieces I would rather mark the whole thing out in chalk and cut the boards down before jointing & planing. I don't think I have used the feeder in nearly a year.
