I posted these on the American Association of Woodturners fourm.
The cherry one got selected for "turning of the week".

1. 8 x 3 Cherry

2. 8 x 4 Box Elder / dye - made to look like a bowl within a bowl

WOW! I love both, but I would pick the box elder 2:1 - just striking!! You have to reveal the secret to this!!

I am in NO WAY a dye person but I have to agree with John and vote for the box elder.

Cool effect.

I bet that cherry one was a PIA to do!!

Both are fantastic pieces. I saw your post on AAW a few days ago and still find myself wondering how you did that with a router and jig!...Bill..

Congratulations. I too would like a little insight as to how these were done. Two very nice & intriguing turnings.

I'm not sure how it's done but I have an idea.I think that when the outside part is formed and the inside is gutted out that it is taken partly out of the chuck on one side and run at a slow RPM to get the wobble effect. I think that would create the ridge around the side.Am I right? It works in my mind anyway.

Very nice! Can't wait to hear how you did these. I think I like the box elder better, but both are special.

John - Congrats on getting Turning of the Week - that's quite the recognition!

Both of your bowls are unique and nicely done! I find I like the Box Elder one a little more - not because of the dye - but because of the form. Very interesting effect and it sure grabs your attention!

Very nice work! Thanks for sharing!
