Hi All,

I have been a woodworker for 15 years and I have never tried carving and would like to try. However, I had a stroke almost 6 years ago and I have had to compensate for it. My right arm and hand are weak and I using left side mostly although I can using my right hand some. So, the question is: can I carve using power carving primarily using my left hand? Does anyone have similar disabilites that are able to carve? Thanks.

Craig

funny you should ask. i am right handed. in november i shattered my right wrist. i carved this yellow pad with my left hand and a few more commissions i had deadlines on. it absolutely can be done. just dont be in a hurry and do what you can. i used traditional carving tools also by holding the tool in my left hand and pushing with my right forearm.

goodluck!!

Hi Randall,

Nice work! I have had to change how I do things in my shop since my stroke but I have been able to do most things I want to do although slower. So, I suspected it is possible to carve but it's great to see it can be done. It is great you are able to carve to so well using only your left hand although I hope your right wrist mends soon.
