Hey guys . . . and girls,

Could anyone who owns a 90 give me some advice on sharpening the blade. The front of the blade is no problem, but the sides are also beveled. Definitely can't hold it in any of my jigs. Is hand sharpening my only option/ Seems like it would be difficult to maintain the bevel angle. THanks for the help!!

I do not think you need to worry about the side bevels. It is like a bevel edge chisel. It just helps it to keep from binding.

When I use my #90, #93 or any rabbet type plane, I usually lay the side that will be against the rabbet being cut down on the bench and press so that it is flushed to the side.

Here is something I posted about shoulder planes:

Anchul,

Jim is correct, you don't need to sharpen/hone the side bevels; they're not involved in the actual cutting action.

Unless you meant that the side bevels made holding the blade in a jig difficult; if that's the case, then hand sharpening is what you'll have to do.
