In this case it could be what ever you think it is. One of my coworkers brought this to me. I don't have a clue as to what kind of wood it is. Anyone have a guess? It was a branch from some trimming that they did. The pith is still in the bottem so will watch it to see what happens. It has been drying for about 6 months. 5 1/2 tall X 3 1/2 wide. Sanded to 320, sanding sealer and Beal buffed only.

Not sure what it is, but I know it's pretty. As for what it is... with flowers in it, it's a vase. With beer in it, it's a mug. I think it could work as either.

Could be used for either. Really nice. Looks kinda like walnut.

Different wood than what we have up here - sure is pretty! Nice work on the cup/vase!

It is "free" wood and it is a nice shape, it is what ever you want it to be, or whatever the buyer or reciever of the piece wants it to be. That is the good thing about vessels, they can hold what will stay in them!

Nice job,

Jeff

I like the shape, and it does remind me of the old aluminum cups/glasses we had growing up. Wouldn't have a clue on the wood, but I don't think it is walnut.

Drying six months? In Tucson? Trust me, it's dry. Very, very dry.

i agree with Lance, looks like mesquite, it is very nicely done, thing about mesquite, you can leave the pith in, it has little movement, i would call it a form

I think it is Walnut with some sapwood in there.

I don't know mesquite very well, but it does resemble some Koa I have seen or some other acacia trees.
