I bought a lathe duplicator for my wood lathe from Penn State. I do not know what type of cutter it came with but I want more on hand than what I have so that I dont have to stop in the middle of a project and sharpen them. I am making some chess sets out of rosewood and it is putting the hurt on my cutter. The thing is that I do hardwood probably 75 percent of the time and other woods 25 percent of the time. Should I get HSS or Carbide cutters? I read on the net where carbide doesnt have as sharp of a point but will keep what it has longer but is also brittle while HSS is better for softwoods. Id like some turners who have experienced this and let me know what you did. I guess I could get both but with the other toys i bought this week i am not wanting to push it with wife..

Thanks
